What Is a Magnesium Oxide Rock Wool Cleanroom Panel?

A magnesium oxide rock wool cleanroom panel is a composite sandwich board built from two rigid magnesium-oxide (MgO) sulfate boards bonded to a high-density rock wool insulation core. The MgO boards act as the structural "skeleton" — anti-sag, fully mould-proof and classified A1 non-combustible — while the mineral-wool core adds A-grade fire resistance, thermal insulation and acoustic damping. The combination gives a single, all-inorganic panel that meets the surface, fire and hygiene demands of a controlled environment.

Because both the facing and the core are mineral-based, the panel will not rust, off-gas or absorb moisture the way a color-steel or organic-core board can. It is the wall and ceiling system of choice where a project must pass a strict fire-code audit and still survive daily disinfection and wash-down — pharmaceutical cleanroom wall systems, GMP suites and laboratory partitions. It belongs to Wonclean's cleanroom sandwich panel family, alongside rock wool, PIR and aluminum honeycomb cores.

As an experienced cleanroom panel manufacturer, Wonclean produces every board on a high-precision automated line and can supply matching ceiling panels, doors and windows for a fully sealed, flush-finish enclosure.

Why Choose MgO Rock Wool for Cleanroom Walls

Passes the fire audit
A1 facing plus an A-grade mineral core means no flame spread and no toxic smoke — the safe specification for fire compartments and GMP suites.

Survives wet environments
The inorganic MgO skin will not rust or rot and resists daily disinfectants, making it ideal for high-humidity wash-down rooms.
Quiet & thermally stable
The dense rock wool core damps noise and holds internal temperature, supporting stable HVAC and a comfortable working zone.

Expert FAQ on MgO Rock Wool Panels

How is this better than a standard color-steel rock wool panel?

Both share an A-grade rock wool core, but the MgO facing is itself A1 non-combustible, will not rust, and is mould-proof with zero swelling in humid wash-down rooms. It is the safer choice for fire compartments, GMP suites and wet processing areas, and accepts HPL, PVC or painted finishes.

What fire rating do you offer, and can you provide certificates?

The MgO facing is A1 and the rock wool core is A-grade non-combustible, with fire resistance reaching 1–2 hours depending on thickness. We supply third-party fire test reports and certificates to EN 13501-1, ASTM E84 and BS 476 on request.

Can the panel be used as a walkable ceiling?

Yes. The rigid double-MgO skeleton plus anti-sag reinforcement gives high bending strength, so the panel can serve as an accessible (walkable) ceiling when correctly framed. Tell us the span and load and we will recommend thickness and core density.

How do you keep panels flat and prevent deformation in transit?

Panels are produced to a flatness tolerance of ≤ 2 mm/2 m with built-in reinforcement against sagging. For export they are stacked flat, film-wrapped with edge protectors and crated in plywood boxes for long-haul sea freight, with clear unloading and handling instructions.

Which surface finishes and colors are available?

Standard is a coated MgO surface; optional HPL, PVC film or painted finishes are available in RAL or custom colors. For a single project we use the same batch to keep color consistent; for large multi-batch orders we coordinate with the mill and can zone any unavoidable variation by room.

What are the lead time and minimum order?

Sample/small orders typically ship in 10–15 days and a full container in about 20–25 days from Shanghai. Thickness, finish and certificates are made to order — send your panel schedule and we will confirm exact MOQ, lead time and FOB/CIF/DDP pricing.

Ready to Spec Your MgO Rock Wool Panels?
