What Is a PU Cleanroom Panel?

A PU cleanroom panel is a metal sandwich panel made by foaming or bonding a rigid polyurethane (PU / PUR) core between two color-coated steel facings. The closed-cell foam gives the lowest thermal conductivity of any cleanroom core, plus an airtight seal, low weight and a strong bond to the steel skins. The facings provide an anti-static, wipe-clean, corrosion-resistant surface, making the panel the first choice for temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms.

PU offers outstanding insulation but a fire classification of B1/B2 rather than A-grade, so it is specified where thermal performance and sealing lead the requirement — cold rooms, cold-chain and controlled environments. Where a higher fire rating is required, the PIR panel (B1) keeps similar insulation, while the rock wool and MgO rock wool panels are A-grade non-combustible.

Part of Wonclean's cleanroom sandwich panel family, the PU panel pairs with matching ceiling systems and cleanroom doors and windows for a fully sealed, flush cleanroom wall system.

Why Choose a PU Sandwich Panel

Holds temperature
The lowest thermal conductivity of any core (λ ≈ 0.022 W/m·K) cuts heat loss and energy cost in cold and controlled rooms.

Sealed against moisture
Closed-cell foam resists water vapour and air leakage, preventing condensation in chilled and humidity-controlled areas.
Light & hygienic
Low weight with a strong steel bond and an anti-static, wipe-clean surface that meets cleanroom hygiene.

Expert FAQ on PU Cleanroom Panels

When should I choose PU over PIR or rock wool?

Choose PU when thermal insulation and sealing are the top priority — cold rooms, cold-chain and controlled-temperature areas — as it has the lowest thermal conductivity. If you need a higher fire rating with similar insulation, the PIR panel (B1) is better; for A-grade non-combustible walls choose rock wool.

What is the fire rating of a PU panel?

The PU core is fire class B1 or B2 depending on formulation — flame-retardant grades are available. We supply third-party test reports to EN 13501-1, ASTM E84 and BS 476, plus ISO 9001 and CE. Where regulations demand A-grade, we recommend a rock wool or MgO core instead.

How good is the thermal insulation?

PU offers the lowest thermal conductivity in our range, around λ ≈ 0.022 W/(m·K). That means thinner panels achieve the same insulation as thicker mineral cores, saving space and reducing the energy cost of keeping a room cold or at a stable temperature.

Does the panel prevent condensation in cold rooms?

The closed-cell PU core acts as a moisture and vapour barrier, and tongue-and-groove or cam-lock joints seal each junction. Correctly installed with sealed joints and a continuous vapour barrier, the system controls condensation in chilled and humidity-controlled spaces.

Which facing, color and flatness can I expect?

Standard is top-brand pre-painted steel (stainless available) in RAL or custom colors, made to ≤ 2 mm/2 m flatness. A single project uses the same steel coil batch for color consistency; large multi-batch orders are color-matched with the mill or zoned by area.

What are the lead time and minimum order?

Sample/small orders typically ship in 10–15 days and a full container in about 20–25 days from Shanghai. Steel gauge, color, thickness and certificates are made to order — send your panel schedule and we will confirm exact MOQ, lead time and FOB/CIF/DDP pricing.
